Default Is it me, or??

I just remembered that I wanted to ask this question after the predator contest was over with. So, here it is....

Is it me, or do other dedicated predator hunters have a hard time finding someone that they are compatiable with while hunting? And by compatiable, I mean, think the same way, act the same way, call the same way, etc!

This question comes from a month that I wasted trying to find a partner that I could take out calling coyotes with me. The whole month of January I had two friends (not close friends that I talk with a lot) that had called coyotes successfully on their own, but neither had killed a lot. We had never hunted with eachother before either. Without going to a long drawn out detailed story, I couldn't make it happen with either of them.

Last year I had tried it before with two other friends that I hang out with on a regular basis. I pretty much got them into calling, yet still had problems.

I am sure that I could go into enough detail that my fingers would start bleading and your eyes as well after reading so much, but I will leave it at this and see how it goes.

I have the same luck with a couple of my calling buddies. It seems when we go it alone we do fine, when we pair up we have a hell of a time. One guy in particular is an accomplished caller in his own right but we have a hell of a time when we go together. It does not matter who is calling when we go together not much happens...strange

I think the same can be said about "hunting" in general. Even though we're all hunters, some times the "chemistry" just isn't there. There's so many variations that come into play from experience, to determination, to skill, to shooting ability, to physical ability, etc. and then mix in each of our dispositions, it can be tough to find a "perfect" match.

Wait a minute, I sound like I'm trying to discribe "match maker" or somethin',[8D] but it pretty much holds true for hunting partners too.

#40.... hey after all my years of hunting, I have only found one guy that, "basically" didnt care about my ego or his, and just enjoyed the time.... I almost lost the guy in a messy divorce... Now that he got divorced and left her... I got him back... It takes a differant breed to put differances asside and just sit and observe, interject when he sees fit, but do it with skill... We all have ego's and ways we want to see things done... Somtimes right, some wrong, most of the time we are to stubborn to listen... "thats me," but as I grow in this game called LIFE, My mind has grown more open to listen, and learn, then sift through the gravel to find anything I can take away from it...

I have a long way to go, till Im man enough as some... but in time, thats were I want to be.....

Predator hunting is, by definition, a lonely pursuit. The quarry is usually not something that most people would consider a trophy, isn't usually a desireable species, and generally takes more resources than most would considerable reasonable. Those that do it view it as a service to someone else, and accept it as such, or view it as an inroad to a more desireable goal.

I know just what your talking about 40, it's hard to take something like calling, and say this is the only way to do it. Every guy has a different idea, not that either is wrong.

A couple three year ago I went calling with a cousin of mine, he had killed dogs before too, but I think he over-called. I was using an E-caller, October, cold, and wet. First seires of calling a dog shows up right in front of us, 200yds out. I started to lip squeek at it, took a few steps towards us, and this clown goes full out with a little hand call. Needless to say me, and the dog came unglued, I could not belive he thought that was the thing to do. He said that's what he always does,,,,, so no I don't think it's you, guys just have their own ways of thinking, and that the way it is..

I agree, its hard to find a hunter on the same page with you. We all have our own little quirks and some upset others because of how "they see it" needing to be done. If you are in search of a partner for coyote hunting, it sounds like its going to be a trial and error thing until you find the right person to go with.

Here is a good one from this weekend. One of my best friends and I were hanging out and he started telling me about a new .357 that he bought. Somehow it got around to him asking me if I could get a coyote in close enough that he could shoot it with his pistol. Our extent of shooting together has been popping PDs when we were younger, but nothing as of late because of his and my work schedule difference and his new wife. I told him that I would give it a try and we headed out to his grandpa's land that I regularly hunt and where my "Money Hole" is.

We get to the location and I start calling. About 8 minutes into the stand I see a coyote coming in, but I knew that it was going to wind us before it got close enough. I look over to let my friend know that I spotted one and I see him with the pistol in his hand with the cylinder open, barrel pointing downward, and he is looking down the barrel for some reason. Getting his attention quietly with him having ear plugs in was tough, but when I finally did get it, and he looked up at me, I pointed towards the coyote coming in. He looked up and the first thing he did was pick up the end of the barrel! All of the shells went flying out of the cylinder and onto the ground in front of him.

I don't know where the coyote went, but it did take me about 5 minutes to stop crying from laughing so hard. To see him sitting there cussing and trying to pick those rounds up was absolutely comical.

Mike, you should move to Colorado. Then you, Howler, and I could get together and relieve this state of all of it's coyote population.

Side note: Happen to live near Pueblo, Co and wouldn't mind me tagging along on your coyote hunt, let me know.
