Default hand made decoy - feather on a stick

I am new to Coyote hunting and feel the urge to thin out a few coyotes inmy area to help the turkey population. I have heard a lot of good things about using decoys for coyote hunting. I have looked at some commercial grade decoys but don't want to spend the money right now on one of these. I am itching to get out and hunt them though. Have you guys had any luck with handmade decoys, particularly the feather on a stick? I would like to know your thoughts. I understand the fact that you would need a slightbreeze to make this type of decoy work. If you have used the feather on a stick tactic, I would like to hear how you made yours and what you used/instructions. If you have had success with other hand made decoys I would like to hear about those as well.

Thanks

I went down to the river to a spot where people go to feed the ducks and geese, and gathered up some feathers. Then I used a piece of styrofaom to stick the feathers into so they would be spread out, then tied a piece of fishing line to it, and attached the other end of the fishing line to one half of the steady sticks I took apart.

Haven't got a chance to use it yet, but I can't see why it won't work.

I have used a simple feather tied to a tree dangling in the breeze, rabbit hide on a limb with fishing line tied to branch coming to me to yank. A red bandana tied to a sappling............ Just something to dangle about to grab their attention and coax them in closer. For low field hunting the best thing I have is a weasel ball. Picked 3 up for $5 each at cracker barrel. I am down to 1, a fox stold one and an owl the other. Just a battery opperated oscilating ball that flips around with a coon tail. I spray them with ultra flat paint. I have had many things snatched off the ball by hawks. Now I just use squirrel tails, rabbit hide, deer tails or feathers attached to ball.
Blessings

I used a Ice Fishing pole tied into a squirrel tail and washer I drop it in a tree about thirty yards a way or in the middle of a field and let it floot around or reel it in with a jerking motion for best reactions
