I agree. There are much better calibers out there for coyotes that are both cheaper and not as punishing. Especially for a 14yr old.

Dont think that it is so much an issue of whether it is too much gun for coyotes as opposed to being a little too much gun for Ohio unless you are way down in the hills.

well dont use ballistic tips if u plan on saving fur..i shot a deer with 7mm mag ballistic tip and put a hole big enuf to put my size 12 boot in...

Why in the world would you buy a 7mm mag when you already own a 30-06? Especially if you're in Ohio....
