Default Coyotes

I recently got a job on a farm in southern new jersey and yesterday i was outback by one of the fields when all of a sudden the guinea hens started going nuts and flying and when i looked up there was a coyote running down the field after them. It was about 1 in the afternoon and i thought it was really strange for a coyote to be out in the wide open at that time. So now my boss wants me to thin out the pack so i need some help figuring it all out because im pretty new to predator hunting. Thanks in advance.

1.Do coyotes have a den only when they are having pups or do they live in them all year long?

2.Is there a certain place i should start looking for their den such as swamps, low points, high points, ect

3.What else is a good way to thin their numbers besides hunting them. Foothold traps? Snares?

any other info would be nice also, i know they get extremely smart fast.

I would hunt them or set traps and snares to try and get them. You can set enough traps out that your bound to get a few in them.

Wise choice.

How experienced are you with firearms? Willyour bossprovide you with the firearm and ammo? It is not unusual to see a coyote in the middle of the day. They can show up at anytime and anywhere. Dad shot one in the middle of the day very close to the house. IF you can legallyhunt coyotes with a handgunAND you can legally be in possession of one AND your boss approves - see if you can carry a sidearm while on his property(make sure to check all local, state and federallaws and abide by them). You never know when the coyote will be back (chances are he will), and it is hard to carry a rifle all the time while working.

well here in new jersey rifles are illegal to hunt with and to carry a pistol and buy a pistol here you basically have to be god or a police officer. Soo that leaves me with my trusty benelli nova pump in 3/12" patterned it yesterday with my turkey choke in from 40 yards and its putting all its pellets on a brown paper bag so im ready to go. Now i just need to brave to conditions and get out there, we can start hunting them at night the 19th. Any tips for hunting them at night like where to set up ect. I know they are very smart and try to circle down wind before coming in so i could use our lake to my advantage, or should i try to stay in the woods more so they have to come in closer to see whats going on? Any other advice you guys have would be appreciated also. Thanks!

I have had my best luck right after sun up. Use any kind of call that can squeak. I have also killed alot of coyotes over turkey decoys while turkey hunting. dont know if you have turkeys there or not.

Tell ya what bud, I don't know what type of farm your on, but if the guy has hens, or other birds, that would be a good place to start. Get your self a open reed hand call, like a little dog by primos. If you can roll your "R"s blow on the call while rolling your toung, and you should sound something like a bird in distress. Rabbit is good too.

You can also bait with a dead bird if it's leagal, I would think it's OK If you kill one keep calling, more may come in after you kill one.

I wouldn't worry to much about their dens just try to find a fence row near the area camo yourself completely so you blend in to the growth along the fence..Sit 20 -40 yards from heavier cover where you think the Coyote will aproch.Try to have your scent blowing away from the cover. Good luck!
