Default Farthest shot with a .22

What's your farthest shot with a .22 in a hunting situation?

I have a Ruger 10/22 and I have it sighted in at 100yards. it shoots about 2" high at 50 yards. I was just wondering how far other people on this forum can shoot their .22 effectively.

My farthest kill shot was at 50 yards on a rabbit with iron sights.

Also, does someone know where I can find a ballistics chart for .22?

It was a fluke. Headshot ona squirrel (he was cutting up in a tree) from 100 yards w/ a4x scope. I couldn't range it, but after the shot I paced it off (I was taking big paces as well) and it came to right at 100.

I had a good rest in the fork of downed tree, so I just slid in underneath it and was popping squirrels. I saw that one that far off and thought, "well let's see", so I aimed high, had time to look over the scope, and saw him fall.It was pretty neat!

Semi-auto .22lr and a prairie dog field, 200 yard kills wouldn't be out of the question.

I have been able to shoot gophers consistantly with a 22LR well past 100 yards. I have never used a range finder to measure the actual distance of my longest shot, but I am estimating a good 150 yards. It is common to have a 125 yard shot, but you need to have a day with very little to no wind for anything approaching 100 yards. IMO, you should really use a soft leadbullet with a deep, aggressive hollow point for those long shots (Winchester X-Pert Hollow Pointis one) to provide a clean kill. Some of the 22LR bullets that call themselves a hollow point are a jokefor a hollow point bullet. Check to make surewhat type of bullet is legal in your area for hunting and/or possession.

I wasn't there to witness it, but my dad shot a groundhog at about 175 yds with his Marlin .22. He will be the first to admit it was a good bit of luck. He just aimed a bit high and shot, and killed it. It wasn't until a few months later that I went and ranged it (it was from our cabin to a yearly hole in the lower field, so I know it was the right distance). So that is the farthest.

I've also seen him take a crow out our back door at about 150 yds. Those are the exceptions though, most shots are under 100 by a great deal.
