410 Slugs And Full Choke

I'm assuming that it's a smoothbore and you're not shooting sabotted slugs. I shootrifled slugsthrough my smoothbore 20 gage, but I won't go lower than a modified choke, I usually use an improved cylinder. A full choke is definitely too constricted for slugs.

Usually open chokes work best on smoothbores, you may damage your barrel,I really dont know, but most people use more open chokes,I havent shot slugs through a gun since I was a kid and it was all I had to hunt deer with.Good luck!!

I have a question for you.

Any shotgun slug through a full choke will not be accurate. Improved cylindershould be the tightest choke using the foster slug, the one you are using. Any other slug such as sabot must be shot through a cylinder bore or rifled barrell which is the same size as cylinder with rifling.

Wondering if anyone here has shot 410 slugs through a full choke barrel. It is a Mossberg 500 pump and Remington slugs. Thanks a lot! Mike

I shot quite a few rifled slugs through a full choked H&R 16 Ga. They shot just fine. I heard or read somewhere that Remington Sluggers were made undersized because they knew folks would shoot them from full choked guns.
If you have other chokes for the gun try them. If you don't, just shoot the rifled slugs through what you have. I don't believe you will damage the gun.

steel is definately harded than lead, but lead will definately blow up a barrel with enough restriction,I dont beleive that a full choke barrel has that much restriction to blow it up,but it probably wont shoot as good as a more open bore. Some guns may but I would use an improved if I had the choice,if it's all you got then try it,none of us started with a bunch of specialty guns to hunt every speicies that we hunt.Good Luck!!
