Default Scope for 10/22 for Squirrel

I picked up a Ruger 10/22 for my son for Christmas and I want to add a scope to it for plinking and Squirrel hunting. I am looking for some suggestions.

I have a Simmons 22 mag on my 10/22. It works great and is crystal clear. Picked it up for $40 at Dick's.

Where is that you got it that scope RugerM77? I am looking to put the same thing on my 10/22 it has an adjustable objective and 3-9 power on the one I want. That is what I would suggest as well. They have some other power options as well including a fixed 4x. They are around 50-60bucks on Midway USA and are the best reviewed rimfire scope under a C note there. I was also looking at the Bushnell's they are about 15-20dollars cheaper and have a good rating as well.

I would go with a 3x9x40 the little larger front lense gives you a bit more feild of veiw and light transmission, but a 3x9 is about all the power you need for squirrels, the 3 power will give you the ability to get on them while they are moving and the 9 power will let you poke his eye out at 50 yards while he is setting still.Good Luck and Good Hunting!!

I have a Nikon prostaff 4x32 on my 597 and it's the best choice I've made for it. I used to use $40-50 scope but after this scope I will never look back at those scope. Nikons rimfire scopes are a little expensive than simmons and bushnells but it's well worth it.
