I've seen it done many times on fox and bobcats, I don't see any big reason why it wouldn't work on coyotes.

Just shoot them in the head and use the 20gr bullets!! These little .17 are accurate as all get out.If anything shoot them behind the shoulder or in the chest out to 100 yds. They will die eventually!

If it's all you have to shoot them with, just make sure it's head shot's only out to 100yards and I wouldn't make any chest shots and expect to find them, you will find some and some may drop dead in their tracks from a body shot but the more you shot the more you won't find,I have hunted coyote's for almost 12 years and killed many, and with a centerfire you will have a runner that can cover a hundred yards or more with his ribs blowed out their side. They are tough, and some people will tell you they hunt them with a .22lr and kill them everytime and they may,I have head shot two of them in my life while squirrel hunting with a .22,the first one folded like a lawn chair, then a few years later the second chance arrose the second one got it between the eyes at the same range about 40yards,the bullet turned him a flip and he took off so fast you couldn't have shot him with any kind of gun,so pick your shots, and good luck getting one to stand still for more than a few second's.This is my opinion based on my experiences with a rimfire,I killed two this summer at 151 yards while groundhog hunting with my 5mm rem. mag.I had no intentions of shooting a coyote, but the chance came along for me to take a link or two out of the food chain and I did,but I wouldn't take that rifle coyote hunting!! good luck and good hunting.
