Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
this I did because it was a coyote.I would never try it on a big game like deer.I have to much respect for them.
my longest on deer would be 250yards.
my wife and I were in the hunt club, looking for some dogs that were gone.I saw a deer down a small road,so I stopped and backed up.while looking at the deer,a coyote walked onto a fire trail.I put the scope on it to see if it was a dog or not.I turned it to 10 power, seeing it was a yote I turned it back down and took a shot. well he hit the dirt.
we measured it to 440 yards,80 grain PSP winchester bullet in my Rem. mohawk 243 carbine.
I say it was luck,although I took another at 320 yards measured.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well, I took to friends out to do some calling one time, they both carried thier bows, I carried my rifle. The plan was to call a coyote into bow range for them, BUT, if and when the coyote was leaving the set up, wether or not they got a shot, I would take the shot. SO, we were just getting set up, when one of them spots Mr. coyote across the big raven from us. And, of course Mr. coyote had already seen us I beleive, 'cause I tried to call it, but it didn't show any interest in coming our way, as a matter of fact, the more I called, the further it was getting from us, SO, they told me to try to get it. So, I did a couple barks to get it to stop again, and with my rifle on the bi-pod, 22-250 shooting 50 gr. PSP, I let fly. And to my surprise, and thiers, it hit the ground. We estimated at around 350 yrds. We didn't have any ranging equipment with us, and no way to step it off across the raven.

RE: YOUR LONGEST 1 SHOT KILL
I shot a few crows at 350 yds. a few winters ago. The yardage was measured with a Bushnell rangefinder. I had placed frozen meat scraps out to bring them in. The gun was a Ruger VT model with Leupold 6.5x20 scope and Harris bipod in .22-250 caliber.
my longest shot was on a woodchuck.sat up top of a high hill looking down over a cut corn feild split by a hedge row and a winter wheat feild.on the other side of the corn feild i noticed some movment.laying from the prone position off a by-pod,aiming down hill i scoped the movment,it was a woodchuck.at that moment i guesstamated the shot to be 450 + yards.i squeezed off the trigger and to my amazement the hand loaded 80 p.s.p.out of my 243 found its mark.without even going down to take a look see,i went back to the truck and got the range finder that i should of had in the first place,i forgot it.i ranged it at 490 yards.then i was pissed,if i had the range finder to begin with i would have move back that 10 or so yards then maybe i would have gotten that ever so elusive 500 + yard one shot kill.
Dang u guys got some long shots, hot to be able to make a 100 yard shot on a crow or squirrel with my 17hmr once i get the time, probly be next fall before i can do it though.

Longest on deer was .30-06 150gr Winchester Supreme Balistic Silvertip 383yrds from my Ruger Standard Mark II M-77, little bit of smithy work and a bipod.
Longest on a yote was with the same gun and load at 461yrds.
The one I'm most proud of was a dollar bill-425yrds got in the oval washington's face is in on my first shot.
I love that rifle!!!
Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!
