.22mag needs .22mag rounds as far as i no. i shoot .22 maxi mags. I defenalty wound not shoot the long rounds out of it until you get the ok.

.22 mag and .22 long rifle are two totally diferent calibers. I've never seen it done but I imagine that because the case diameter is smaller that you will probably receive a face full of very hot gas and the bullet will tumble from not engaging the rifling.

22lr are not meant to be discharged out of a 22mag. Safety first, don't try it.

PaB29,

It may or may not work and if it does work you will be able to see bad signs on the empty 22LR hulls.

If you're rifle is a semi auto, it won't work. If a bolt action, you probably could shoot the LR in the mag. but the LR shell will probably be cracked. Not good. I wouldn't recommend doing it.

Once I shot a black squirrel with a .22 mag and had it crippled only to find out it was my last shell. I knew I has some .22LR in the truck.Called my brother up he was hunting near by and he brought a few shells up. They shout of the gun and I recovered the squirrel. Probally not the smartest thing I've ever done. Anyways yes they will fire. NO there not suppossed to be shot thought the mag. Some of you guys have probally seen the revovlers that shoot .22 mag and .22LR I know that there are different cylinders for the rounds because of case lenght.

get different rounds.

shot mine the other day and was getting dime sized 3 shot groups at 50 yards. half dollar to quarter sized group at 85-90 yards with only 1-2 inches of drop?, im not sure about the drop. then at 150 yards the group spread out but definitely small enough to dispatch a rabbit, coon, or fox.

that was out of a lead sled though, no way i could do that freehanded.

dont try it they might shoot but due to the smaller case diameter and case length you are puting a bunch of crap in your chamber this will make the gun not load or extract the 22mag shell's right just sell the 22lr's and buy some 22mag's.You could scar your chamber and hurt the accuracy of a very accurate caliber.
