Default is any other hound hunter having this problem

first of all here in wi we got a layer of snow then crust then snow which i can see why the dogs feet are getting cut up by the crust but when im out rabbit hunting the dogs seem too lose the track too easily. i knowi have decent dogs but c'mon its terrible when they lose track every 100 yards when its still running a straight shot. my dogs were running great in fall so where the coon dogs but is was also wetter. is anyone else having this problem.
