Default Good Varmint scope? please help!

Ok well I cant really afford any really high priced scopes for my colt ar-15 right now so i was going to go with a tasco....i dunno if thats a big NO NO but this is why I am asking.
The model that i am looking at comes in a 10-40x50 scope and a 6-24x42. Which one would you prefer and why?

Thanks a bunch!

Of those two Id opt. for the 6-24-42 for two reasons. I like to have the lower power setting. 10 power is just not low enough if you're calling predators because they can be right in front of you at any moment. and I also don't think that the extra large objective lenses are necassary, unless you might do some night calling, and then they might be worth it. I like to keep my scopes closer to the rifle, lower scope rings in other words.

Tasco will get ya by, and when funds allow it, you can upgrade.

42mm objective diameter can usually be mounted using mediumrings. Scopes with objective diameters between 43mm to 50mm....anything over 50 will needextra-high rings.

So if you get the 6-24x42 get medium rings.

If you get the 10-40x50 get high rings.

If it was up to me and getting a scope for an ar-15 id opt for the 6-24

On the AR platform, some guys opt for the high rings no matter the size of objective lense. I prefer to have cheek weld on my stock, but that's just me. Otherwise, what 4 buck said is right on.

On my AR im using a 40 dollar 3-9x40 simmons 8-point till I get the funds for something better. And when I do Im looking at a bushnell legend 5-15x40 which runs around 200 bucks. to back up what howler said low magnification range is very important when using a scope for hunting. I generally use 6x for everything its plenty of magnification for even long shots.

On my bushy I have aCHEAP BEC 6x24x50--- it works great for everything from deer to predators and beyond. Pick something that you feel comfortable with-- but the low power is defiinately better expecially in low light conditions like early morning and late evening.
