.22 mag is good to 100yds on coyotes. You can take them farther but you would probably want to step up to a 22-250 for past 100yds.

I hunt for fur and I will never, I repeat, NEVER use a .22 mag, .17 HMR, or a .22 long rifle for larger varmints (yotes, fox, bobcat, etc.). There way to small. You wound way to many of them, and practically never kill any. I use these types of calibers: .17 remington ( BIG DIFF. from the HMR), .204 ruger, .223 Ackley, .220 swift, .221 fireball, or a shotgun with 4buck. Argue if you want, but I guarantee that I will kill way more than you will. Heck I have deer hunted with all those rifles before, and have killed plenty of deer with them. I have two take headshots with some but still killed them.

If you hunt at night in Michigan, all you can use is 22 rimfire or smaller; shotgun, no slugs or buckshot.
