Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
During two recent deer hunting trips, I have seen a bobcat. What can I use to stop it so I can get a shot? How can I attract one and what type of call(s) should I use? I hunt with 30-06 and 7mm-08, should I carry a .22 for the cats? Help...
RE: How do I attract a bobcat and another question...
if your sitting a deer stand and want a shot at a moving predator(cat)just kiss the air or the palm of your hand.make sure your ready to shoot before you do this becouse there going to stop dead in there tracks and look at you.any distress call will work but bird distress seems to be effective on cats.if you have a rabbit distress hand call, use that it will work.just remember a cat will sneak in when responding to a call and will take up to 30 min or more to do so.if its cats your after let the fox walk.i think both the 30-06 or 7mm-08 are a bit excessive for cats unless you want to watch them explode...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

No way on the .22 man unless you hit him in the head and it better be the right spot. I would definitely not use a .22 because more than likely you will hit the cat wound him and he will run off and either die or hurt for awhile.

30-06 is a good round to pop bobcats with. I've shot several from my deer stand and didn't damage the fur much at all. Nothing a good taxidermist can't fix.
