Default Soft point for 17 HMR

I been shooting yotes with my 17 HMR.. I notice that once I get out to 175 yrds to 200 the bullet does more damage and drops them faster.. I am taking it is because the bullet has slowed a bit and mushroomsa bit moreat these distance to do more damage in the eternals.. This is with the 20gr cci game point.. Does the 17 make a soft point without the jacket that anyone knows of?

I did a test with a 55 gal plastic jug filled with water.. When I shot it with the 17 hmr it didn't flatten past the copper coating? But I did the same with 22 soft and copper coated.
And the copper coated 22 did not mushroom either past the copper.. I tried a lead 22 and it mushroomed quit nicely.. I did have a few that did frag but most did mushroom considerable amount compared to the copper coated..

I've never seen anything other than the hollow points and V-max styled bullets for the hmr.
Dropping coyotes at 175 and 200 yards with the hmr is, ummm, surprising to say the least!

where are you shooting the coyotes(behind shoulder, head)? I have never shot one with my 17hmr, what range do you limit yourself to when hunting with it? I would say try going to www.midwayusa.com to see their selsction of 17hmr ammo.

My 17 is sighted for 150yrds.. I have shot 3 between 172 and 198 yrds.. 1 was a head shot is all I could see cause it was getting late and 2 was just behind the shoulder at quartering away.. Both shots did drop them in their tracks..
Like I said, only 3 out that far of distance with the 17. I have shot a half dozen with the 17 between 70 and 130 yrds give or take a few..
I have had 3 of them run about 20 yrds before they flopped.. This is what made me think the bullet slowed down some and did more damgage than zipping thru faster at closer ranges and would like to find some lead without the jacket..

I could be wrong though..
