Default Squirrel cleaning

My wife has never wanted me to shoot squirrels, but she's going to be out of town for a while so I'm going to have at it.

What are some of your tricks for field dressing squirrels? Also, any cooking tips would be appreciated since I'm going to be on my own there.

Thanks!

ok, in this link is a video on skinning them, http://members.localnet.com/~nickdd/
What I do is cook them until tender, then roll them in flour, season to taste, and fry them. I'd rather have squirrel than anything else

RR, how do you cook them before frying them? Simmer in a frying pan or boil?

myself, I bought a small pressure cooker just to cook squirrels and pressure cook them for about 1/2 hour, but boiling will work as well just takes longer

i do em up like a deer...gut them...then skin them(skinning is THE WORST...it takes a good sharp knife..no peeling it off most of the time!) after you got it skinned, i like to quarter them..both back legs and the ribs and front legs..makes 4 quarters. not much meat on the front but theres some...most of its in the back legs.

after i got the quarters i dip them in eggs then into italian bred crumbs. then i deep fry...they turn out and taste pretty much like chicken wings..couple drops of hot sauce on them and they are good eaten...takes a good couple to make a meal...

also, if using a shotgun, try to pull out all the shot after skinning, before cooking! believe me....biting on shot is no fun. exspecially copper or nickle plated!! can usually see the holes that the shot made. often times there will be some hairs or in the case of a bird, feathers in the hole..if not, spotting the hole the shot made still isnt tough if you look...

mauser, skinning a squirrel takes 2-3 minutes if you practice the technique in the video above, and yes fine shot is a pain if you bite into them, I've used a custom ruger 10/22 for years, and just recently set a 17 HM2 up exclusively for squirrel hunting.

I don't know what I am doing differently, but I have never had anything skin that easily. That really amazes me.

It looks like the squirrels need to be pretty fresh for that to work right. I shot and skinned several yesterday that had me playing tug-o-war with myself to get the skin off.
