What do you do with coyotes?

Everyone keeps saying some rounds are to big for yotes and there won't be much left. What do you do with them that it matters? Does it ruin the meat or what? Is there a market for yotes that is worth the time to mess with them? I thought most people hunt them to balance their population. Is it wrong to shoot em and leave em?

I don't know about other people, but if i get one i want to mount it (i haven't got any yet) If you shoot bigger rounds it messes up the hide, but if you're not going to mount it or something of that nature then i dont see that it matters too much. Hope this helps

It is true that the fur market, well just plan sucks these days, but there is a little money that can be made with them, about enough to pay for ammo and maybe a little gas money. I am planning on selling a few to a taxidermist this winter. I don't even have to skin the stinkers, which makes it that much better. Other than that, you're right, to some farmers/ranchers, they are worth more dead in a ditch than they are running around. They rate about as low as prairie dogs, starlings, and crows in my book.

Give em to me! I'll sell em to the local furbuyer!Depending on where you are,they are worth from $10 to $50 or more. It's a waste to leave them to rot.

I tan the hides. And sometimes I'll save a bone or the fangs to do stuff with. Though I have only gotten one coyote so far and it was in the middle of the summer and it looked like a 30 pound rat, hardly any hair on it at all. I didn't save that hide, just layed it off in the woods.

i was brought up to always use what i harvest.now i realy don't want the meat,don't know what it would taste like don't realy want to know.so that leave things like claws,teeth,pelt.most times give um away,hang um on the garage wall.used to sell them years ago to a fur buyer a few towns away but there deffinetly isn't much money in it.theres just somthing about shooting an animal and leaving it lay that dosn't set well with me.now if i was a person who lost thousands of dollars to coyotes every year i would have a different frame of mind about it for sure.

I agree 100%. I was brought up the same way. I think of game animals as harvest but not predators. However I still feel badly about just leaving them laying there. That is why I am asking what to do with them. I killed a couple recently, but I didn't have much use for them after I shot them. One was chasing deer in my hunting area. By the way, I didn't see as many deer in that area this year, but it is the first year that I have seen coyotes. That is why I shot them. I hit another one but it went into a thicket where I wasn't about to chase it.

The male I shot smelled bad too. I wasn't about to carry that thing anywhere. It was a head shot so I know it wasn't the guts.

What is the cost of having them tanned? I already get in trouble about what I spend on hunting.

Unless you are going to save the skin what difference does it make how big the gun is to kill the thing? I had someone say OO Buck was too much for coyotes. Why?

I skin and either tan or sell to fur buyer. A good coyote can get you up to $25. After tanning some they make the absolute best ice fishing hats there is. Very warm and comfortable
