Default Coyotes in the summer?

Lately, there has been a pack of coyotes howling in a riverbottom behind my house. I have access toi hunt about one mile of the riverbottom, and want to try and hunt the coyotes. What is the best calls to use in the summer and what time of day? I have wanted to hunt coyotes for a while, and have tried trapping, but havent had any luck. I dont have a light to hunt all night, so either early morning or evening would be good Im guessing. Any advice for a new predator hunter?

try a rabbit in distress. If that dont work either try a bird in distress or a challenge howl. Simply howl at the yotes when they howl, i have called them in that way before, just sucks that i was hunting deer in a thick woods with a flintlock, neddless to say i missed him running. Good luck.

P.S. Try in early morning and 15-30 minutes before dark.

summer yotes can give you fits. they are well fed, its hot, they don't move alot. but the young of the year aren't the brightest at this time either and are not call-shy and if you can get near a den and "loafing" area they can be trapped fairly easy. For me, i prefer to trap than call, but a canine pup distress has worked well for me in spring and summer. You may not fool mom and dad, but the young you should be able to take out. make sure your set-ups are perfect, they are hard enough to call in when they are hungry, so don't blow what could be a one-time deal. play the wind, and good luck.
p.s. don't give up on your trapping...once you get the hang of it you will really catch the fur.

Thanks. I would like to trap them now, but the trapping season for yotes doesnt open until the end of Oct. They can however be hunted year round. I'll have to go out a few times and try some calls.
