.17HMR all the way. more accurate, more powerful and the casing is like 2 times longer than the mach 2. if ur gonna shoot yotes u need to stay w/ the magnum.

The HMR is based on the 22mag case, and the mach2 is based on the 22lr case. If you would have just said squirrels, I would suggest the Mach2. But with the bigger critters, definitely go with the HMR. I would just suggest you use the 20gr expanding bullets for the bigger stuff. Squirrels it really doesn't matter because you should head shoot them regardless. So I would just use which ever shoots best out of your gun. My only other advice is consider the cost of ammo. Ammo runs right around $10/50. You can find it cheaper, but don't count on it. If that is too pricey you might want to consider something else. Good luck.

22mag & 17hmr both run pretty close in price range. As for the range of shooting a yote, I would limit your shots to 100 yards max. Beyond that and penetration will suffer and not be adequit for humane kills reliably. If you want a gun to shoot out to 200 yards you need to step up to something with more oomph. Good luck.
