Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
We had this thread not to long ago. .22 lr is the best choice for an ethical kill.
I would go bigger.
Did you mean to say "isn't"? I've heard way too many times that a double lunged coyote can still run off from a 22lr

Not enough power! Yes, the .22 will kill a coyote but many will run off. They will eventually die. Even the .22 Magunum is a little "undergunned".I would recommend you hit them a little harder with a .204,.223, 22-250 or a .243.
I have killed many coyotes with a .22mag and some with a .22lr.I dont think it requires you shoot them in half to kill them.I will give them credit they are tough but not that tough.I use to take atleast 40 a year where I worked(on a large cattle farm)it was common to see 10 aday during the winter. That may not be many to all of you but that was alot to me.I always had my trusty .220 swift but I also carried my .22wmr.At 75 to 80 yards you could kill a yote as easy with that .22wmr as a high power. No I didnt try to head shoot them either. It does require you to get close to them, but it is not that hard to make a clean kill with a .22wmr and at around 50 yards with a .22lr.We have people on here deer hunting with a .22hornet and I dont hear anyone bashing that,a.22wmr isnt that far behind a hornet in the power range. So it wont kill a yote????
