Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
In my area (Northeast Ohio) weve been starting to see alot of foxes. Ive probly seen 3 or 4 but my brother has seen over 10 in the last year. Before this year though weve never seen any. Anyways, the other day we were hunting turkeys and it was around 11 in the morning. It was me and my 2 brothers in a blind and we were on the edge of our property on the side of this big ravine. I was using my mouth call when my brother said he could hear something coming up the hill. He was the camera-man for our hunt becouse he already got a turkey earlier in the day. he turned the camera on and thsi really big fox or coyote come over the gill. He started coming in to our decoys. About 30 feet away he stopped and looked around. he then moved around us to the left and came in to about 25 feet, He then saw us and ran off. We have the whole sequence on video and its about 35 seconds long.It looked way bigger than any fox i have ever seen and it was pretty light in color but it was orange. I amabout75% sure it wasnt a coyote. Anybody know how big they can get, ill try to post a video soon.
PS~ he spooked ahen on his way out and it flew up into a tree to our left and we filmed in for about 30 minutes. She proceeded to fly down over the ravine and walk away.

the video quality isn't that good but my first though was coyote as well. I have seen a ton of foxes and I have only seen one that big. But still, color looks like fox...

sorry for the video quality, i had to downsize it to get it online and it lost alot of quality. Im pretty sure it was a fox, the video makes it look alot lighter than it was.

definately not a fox, its a red colored eastern yote, here's a red yote that came into a turkey call a few year ago, in summer fur they appear redder than in winter,

Looks like a yote to me! I agree about the gait being wrong for a fox!

yeah, the lack of the distinctive black ears, black forelegs, and tail tip, with the white tuft at the end is a givaway, and its just too big to be any kind of fox, a very large fox is 14-15 inches tall at the top of the back, that thing is larger, its a yote allright and a big one at that.
