Default new to forums and would like some info

very recently i have started looking for a hobby and i think hunting is for me. I want to go get my license in about a month and im in the process of buying a rifle (savage .22) and i would like to know if anyone has any information on hunting jackrabbit or any other small game that i can take either with a .22 or 12g shotgun in southern california; Fontana, CA to be exact. I've been loooking everywhere online but i cant locate anywhere nearby where i can just go out and shoot. Also, I need a license to hunt anything right?

any information would be much appreciated
thank you

i live in illinois and to first start hunting you need a hunter safety course, after you graduate and get a hunter safety card, you can put a order in with the state for FOID fire arm identification card. this allows you to legally carry firearms. you can purchase your general hunting license at walmart or gander mountion etc. to buya hunting license you need your hunter safety card. and money of course. with the general hunting license small game is covered. but to hunt BIG GAME deer antelope etc etc you need permits along with the hunting license. good luck this is all true for illinois, check with you DNR for all rules or regulations

Like they said, get in touch with your states wildlife department and they will help you get started. You will have to go through a hunter safety course before buying a license before you can do any hunting. You're state will have a lot of public lands that can be hunted for different game species.
You'll learn a lot about hunting in your state in the hunter safety course. The courses these days don't just teach safe gun handling, but they will cover a lot of topics that will help get you started!
Good luck in your new venture.
