Default coyote surprise

Just got back from the holidays in Illinois. While there, I was running a small trapline for coons. The last few days i was trapping a small feeder stream with a rocky bottom. So, I was using mostly double longspring #1's with heavy drags in water sets baited with tuna. This morning one of the traps was gone with no sign of a struggle. As, I was standing there scratching my head, i heard an awful racket in the brush about 50 years away. It turned out to be a medium size coyote bitch tangled up in a fallen tree top. All I had was a little league baseball bat, so we had a nice tussle. That qualifies as my strangest catch in almost 30 years. So, I'm now up up to about two dozen coons (averaging close to XX) and the doggie. Any updates on fur prices for the lower midwest?

Market for coon was very strong at the begining of the season, still holding well average that most trappers sre getting is 15.00 for large, 18.00 for xxlarge, I have heard of some guys getting even more for the heavy blacker color phase. Congrats on your wterway coyote, that was a very interesting read. thanks for sharing.

Thanks. Based on what I was hearing prior to the season, I would be happy to average 7-8 for my coons. Sounds like things are even better. How about coyotes? I heard that muskrats and beaver are doing very well this year. If the river behind my house ever goes down, I may take a shot at them if the price remains good.
