Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
The 22 lr isnt enough for yotes, but if you get one in 22 mag it will be fine for hardwoods hunting where your shots are limited to 75 yds.

I use mine for jackrabbits and cottontails. I've never seen a coyote at the ranch we hunt, but, I would think that the .22would have enough pop to kill a fox.
Foxes down here aren't a whole lot larger than our jackrabbits...
I believe it's all distance and shot placement. I haven't personally killed one with my 10/22 but I honestly believe it possible if you put the bullet where it should be (in this case probably a head shot). You also have to keep in mind that these things aren't sniper rifles, you should wait for a relatively close shot in my opinion.

Straight from the factory they're not sniper rifles , but with the wealth of aftermarket parts like ported bull barrels and such out there they definitely can become one .

I shoot a ruger and love it. It is plenty for yotes i have personaly killed 5 or 6 with mine. Just have to put a good head shot on them witch is the way i like it or on 2 of them i had to give them the spray. A 22 is a mean little bullet and does alot of damage to somethings insides with all that bouncing around.

I've shot gophers out to just past 100yards with my old one (factory). With a little money you can make them real accurate, but you can't make them powerful enough to kill coyotes ethically. A fox would be about the biggest thing I would shoot with a 22lr. Get the CCI Velociters. 40 gr bullet with some zip to it. They will have the most energy for a 22lr.
They will cleany take a fox no problem. I have killed 20-30 coyotes with mine over the years, most of them were in footholds or snares, so it was a close shot, but I have killed them out to 50-60 yards with head shots when not in traps.
I have a carbon fiber barrel on mine, Hogue Over Mold stock, trigger job, millet rings, Nikon 4.5-14x40, and some other lil mods and it is a killing son of a gun!
