Default Is this a groundhog? Thank! :)

This little fella comes to my yard frequently... I'm not really familiar with animals.... Is it a groundhog?

Thanks!

Yes it is.
Thanks!

I'm almost afraid to ask a follow-up question... This little fella is not the only onewho visits regularly... Does this mean there are groundhog tunnels on my property? If so, is this bad?

At least he's no deer... I still have a raccoon-sized cage/trap that I can use to send this groundhop packing...

Groundhog holes are the worst....I almost broke my ankle in one on opening day bow season. My dog almost got hurt as well as she stepped in one....if she would have got hurt, I would have a shovel and dug up the hole up!

Yep, that's a Whistle pig! It wont be hard to find thier tunnels either, cause they are huge. Do you live in a neighbor hood? If not just blast him with a 22. Thengo all midevil onthe rest of them. Depending on where you live they can have more than one litter a year, but usually just a couple of kits at a time. The young ones arent bad eating but the older ones are hard to skin. The belly skin is thick and tough as iron.

woodchuck -

I used to shoot them alot - but now I'm happy just to see one -and let them live - since coyotes and Hawks/Owls are doing well in Central NY in the last 10 years.
