best 17 cal bullet for squirrel??

Im gonna go squirrel hunting this weekend and i was thinking of taking my .17 cal out.I know from experience that the 17 grain v max bullets will blow a green tomato to bits and peices and so i figure it will do the same to a squirrel,and i dont want it to mess it up to bad,so i was wondering if the 20 grain fmj(full metal jacket)would be better for a clean pass through.or if you guys have any other bullet options that wont mess the squirrel up to bad im all ears.thanks

the 20 grain i am not sure about the 17grain with a head shot you are fine
