Default Squirrel calling?

I read in a Field & Stream article that there are two kinds of calls you should use for squirrels: a bark and a distress squeal. Are either of these effective, or is there some other tactic I should use?

I've had no luck with the bark, but you wouldn't believe the results from the distress call. I got mine at the local Gander mtn.

Myself and spidermonkey have had great luck with the distress call. we use Lohmann Distress call. Just be ready cause if they come in they come running in full bore right on top of you. Older squirrels tend to just bark and give their location away.

Gander Mtn, huh? That's pretty cool, as there just happens to be one right near the Wal-Mart and Sam's Club I go for food up at college! Maybe I can get one and give it a try in the woods around here before I go home on break! Thanks for the responses y'all!

Here is the technique for distress sound...

Hold a sapling as you prepare to blow call.

Shake the sapling 3 times as you blow the call

This imitates a young squirrel having trouble while in a tree as some predator flurries around trying to get it
