Default Sons first hunt

I took my son on his first hunt yesterday. We spent all day walking the woods and both off us killed our limit. He killed his first Squirell with a Henry Mini-bolt .22LR with open sights at close to 30 yards. I said he could have first shot and when he saw that Squirell he had the safety off gun aimed and squirell dead in less than a second. He had one go around the tree on him. He threw a stick on the other side to scare it back to his side an nailed him with a clean head shot. The kid is deadly!!!

As i was wrighting my post earlier. Iwas thinking about how cool it wouldbe too have a pic. But i didn't have a camera. I had a cell phone though. Now i see the attraction for camera phones. I am surprised i do not own one. Given how much i like new gadgets. But we do have knew memories together, likehim coming face to face with a bannana spider the size of my hand.We went to the gun shop at lunch time, and found aH&R rifle in .243 that fit perfectly. He shoots my wifes M77 Internatinal all the time off the bench. But it is still too long. This rifle only had an 11 1/4" LOP. For 195.00 with scope i think it is a done deal. I just have to convince the wife her baby is ready. This maybe one of those " It's easier to begg for forgiveness, than ask for permission" times.

If you look at my antelope hunt post in the big game forum you'll see my girls with an H&R Handi rifle in .243 The youngest shot it comfortably when she was ten. As the pics note, my kids aren't large, so it is a good gun for small people. $195 with scope is a killer deal. Most I see these days run closer to $225 w/out the scope.

Ban Canned Hunting. If you don't speak up against it you are part of the problem.

The rifle is used but looks new. He just turned 8 but has been shooting with me since he was 3. Thats why i have a hard time finding one short enough. I was proud but i don't know who had the bigger grin. We got home about 10 last night and his mom got him out of the truck. He had been sleeping for2 hours but he woke up enough to say " I shot my first Squirel" then fell back to sleep. He handled himself well.

Fun, fun, wish I got involved in hunting when I was younger, went on first at 13 and it's just got better and better, tell your son congrats! I'm sure it will be the same for him.
