Default When runnin a trap line...

how far apart should I put my trap sites from each other, in a heavy coyotepopulated area?
I don't want my traps on top of one another, but, I do want to maximize my sucess rate.

It seems to really vary by location and amount of area you have available to trap. Set on sign: Tracks, dropping, etc... Hit areas like field edges, along ditches, two track roads, where any of the above converge. Most will recommend gang setting at least 2 or 3 traps with in 10 to 30 yards of each other to pick up doubles or triples where they are traveling together. This also can leave traps open for the coyotes if coon, skunks, or possum have some of the sets tied up when the coyotes come alonge. I generally give 1/4 to 1/2 mile between sites...depending on sign, etc...

I have been letting my catch in a cartain location determine how many sets to keep in that area. every time I catch a fox or coyote I remake that set and punch in a fresh set within 10 to 20 feet. one particular spot yielded 7 fox and 2 coyote. If its a great location dont be afraid put some steel down. but just try to vary the types of sets that you make.
