RE: biggest game taken with 17hmr
Took 3 coyotes since 2004 with the .17HMR, but not a planned hunt. All 3 were taken during the birthing of a new cria from my families llama herd. Head shots were taken, and never needed a follow up shot. I prefer my bigger guns for taking of any coyotes in planned or unplanned harvests, but at the times of these harvests, the Ruger .17 HMR was the only gun I had at the time. Fortunately I had the gun, and fortunately the coyotes were under 120 yards for correct shot placement with that caliber, but like I said I prefer larger calibers but vital shots, not head shots. Other than that, the .17 HMR for me claimed 4 badgers, hundreds and hundreds of ground squirrels, dozen or more cottontails, one rattlesnake, and a couple of woodpeckers that were destroying facing on my barn. Effective round, when used properly.
