Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
Hi there everyone. I'm a novice trapper who trapped some coons this past year and would like to move onto some fox and yotes. However, what size trap would I use? Everyone tells me 1 1/2 for fox, but 1 3/4 for coyote. I've seen both and have sign and scat from both. Is there any happy medium? Will a 1 3/4 catch a fox? Thanks for any help!!!
Hi chuck, I to am a novice trapper and I just caught my first fox with a 1 1/2 coilspring which did great but for the coyotes I think I am going to move up toa 1 3/4 or maybe even a 2.
I trap fram land close to town and there is alot of foxes and 1 0r 2 coyotes. I use the Bridger 1.65 off/set and is great on fox and a occational coon. And what coyotes I do trap there the 1.65 is great. When I trap the desert for coyotes I use Bridger #2 off/set. These are both great traps and are already center swivel.
For coyotes and a novice trapper I wouldn't use anything less than a #2 and it need to be modified. Bridger makes a modified offset #2 that is a good stout trap.
I used #2's and for sure had one coyote pull out of it. It was a brand new unmodified duke CS. Go with a number 2, and you will be set for everything from 'possums to bobcats, and maybe a coyote, but it will probably break the skin of smaller animals (see newbie trapper post).
