Default .22 LR ballistic tip?

Why can't someone make a .22 LR with a ballistic tip. Make it just like the .17 HMR or MACH2 but in .22. I think it would add 50-75 yards on the accuracy and yet as much or more KE. Look at what the new Hornady LEVEREVOLUTION has done compared to the round nose ammo.

Just a thought, maybe not a very good one but I thought I would ask anyway.

Be kinda funny looking with that bullet with a pointy nose on it. But then again, you wouldn't find a 500 round box for $9.00 either if they put points on them.

Polymer tips may loose their effectiveness at lower velocities. I don't know this, just speculating. I may improve accuracy some...and it's a good ideal, but many many guns can already put one in a squirrels head at 50yards.

ihave been wonderingthe samething. i thinka light weight ballisticwould be a great idea for a .22 longrifle. next time you are out with your .22 take some .22 shorts with you. like most people you probablyhaveyour .22 sighted in with longrifles at 50 yards or there abouts. now try the .22 shorts. they will hit about 2 inches higher than the longrifle at 50 yards. the reason is the bullet weight gives it a flatterflight. the short has a bullet weight of 19 to 20 grains. this is what makes me believe that a light weight ballistic would shoot very well from a longrifle load. it sure would straighten out the bullets path.

I have hit rabbits in the sholder with 22 shorts and the projectile has only penertrated 1-2cm I think the lighter bullets need lots of speed to be efective

260rem...... that's why i said a smaller light weight bullet(as in a .22 short) butwith theLONGRIFLE charge. smaller bullet, bigger charge=more speed. i still think it would be a great idea for a .22. it may even get the .22 shootingclose toa .17.

My hope was to be about 1600-1700 fps and half inch groups out to 70-80 yards instead of 50. The average LR is what? About 1200 fps? The new Mach2 is 2000-2100fps?

yes guys but look at it, the 22 LR bullet is the same dia. as the case, the bullet is actually stepped down where it goes in the case, so, it isn't possible to make a jacketed bullet for it. the jacketed bullets are what gives the 17's they're incredible accuracy

if u used a ballistic tip for a squirrel or something it would either tear apart the squirrel or go straight through. horrible[:'(]

The bullet is the size if not bigger than the case. We talked about this at work. But since I have started this I have found Remington Premier has an AccuTip for the .22 Mag. along with both .17's. Will it not work with .22 LR?
