went out the other night with a buddy. never pred. hunted before. was really windy, probably 20 mph +/- 5 mph. first spot nothing. then we went toa buddies place and saw a lot of tracks. moon popped out and it was full which was nice. still a little windy with some gusts but not as bad as before. hit the mouth call for 40 sec and within 5 min. a fox comes trotting right past our position. we were set up in a huge tree platform just in the woods on the edge of a field. i saw him, drew up and squeaked. he stopped cold and look my way and bam. he took off like a bat out of hell. i would have thought the .223 would have dropped him right there so i began to think i missed. well i was right, no blood and no fox. must have hit some of the light brush he was behind when i fired. next time I'll set up were i can get a clear shot on him. i was a little surprised on how fast he reacted, his quick gate and the fact that i called one in on such a windy day. this happened about midnight last night in upstate new york. well i don't have my first pred. trophy but men i am hooked. good luck to all and hope everyone had a happy & safe holiday

Better get your gun sighted in better. You cannot afford missed shots like that and just scare away the predators. LOL, anyway, good job calling in.
