Default After the shot....now what?

Ok, so lets say I go out and try to call a coyote in...and it works. Lets also say that I get a good shot off and kill it. Well also assume the caliber/weather/animal health all combined to give us a fabulous pelt ('cause frankly, we're on a roll here.)

Don't need help with how to skin a coyote but what in the world do I do with the fur then? I certainly don't want know how to tan furs, and right now I don't really want to bother with it but what can I do to keep it until I do or am able to sell the thing?

Oh and lets make sure I've got this straight: Good camo against a dark background, wind at my back, 30 minutes tops then move on out of ear-range from previous stand.

you can rool them up i hear and put them in a sealable bag and freeze them.

don't worry about the camo if you will be hunting at night. i've seen several pics in a pred. hunt. book i have and the guys just were whats warm when hunting at night. night meaning pitch black out not sun rise or set.

other than that you sound ready to take some yotes out. good luck

You don't want to know how to tan a fur? Then what do you want the fur for then? And if you don't tan the fur out, and want to store the fur for later use, there is a time window for preservation and odor. My advice, tan it or have a taxidermist do it for you, and enjoy it/sell it if you can, or otherwise you will be storing a stinky fur in your freezer and forget about in a month. If you don't want to do anything with it, don't shoot the yote until you decide what work you are willing to do to reap any benefit of taking that creature.

You can salt the pelt if you want to use it for a wall mount, strech it on a wire ring or I like a circled limb or some other wood ring and scrape the flesh off and then coat with salt for several weeks, looks pioneer.I've had goodluck with it and it's an attractive wallhanger.

Well I DO want to do something with it, why else would I be asking?

I'm hunting around a pretty full working schedule for the next week or two (that is, when I get the chance) Salting, and skull bleaching are the only things I could think of...and really didn't know how to even go about those things. All the other game I hunt are for meat and that's a pretty straight forward process. I shy away from full-blown tanning because I assume its a rather time intensive and drawn out process and I don't know how to go about that either.
