Small Game, Predator and TrappingFrom shooting squirrels in your backyard to calling coyotes in Arizona. This forum now contains trapping information..
Mossberg 835 ulti-mag with 3 inch #6 Federal. For coyote though, .308 and the compound. I usually don't shoot yotes with the shotgun, taken a couple with the mag, but not what I prefer.

Where i hunt, there can be a real overlap in terms of what you are shooting at. Asmall game huntmight also involve squirrels, quail, pheasant, dove,or woodcock. I like a 12 gauge modified with #6 low brass shells as a versatile combo. If I'm going just for rabbits over beagles, I might go with a 20 gauge or even 410.

You'll find rabbits just about anywhere there is tall grass or brush. Anywhere you see honeysuckle growing is a good bet. Big briar patches or brushpiles are good. Even a fence row out in the middle of an open field might be a good spot. If you are just starting out, i would suggest getting a pair of carhart coveralls. They are made of thick material that is needed if you are going to wade thru briars and brush. That's what you have to do it you don't havea beagle, or even if you do. The key is to cover all the ground and stomp or kick at anything that looks like there might be a rabbit there. If there is, you'll often find out pretty quick.Of course, its much easier if there is some snow on the ground and you can see them scampering out ahead of you.

the last time i used a shotgun for squirrel i used a .410. for rabbits the only thing i've used is a slingshot and a pellet gun .177. head shots are the key. if your looking for rabbits and theres snow on the ground then just follow their footsteps until you come to their hiding hole. usually a brush pile, thick briars etc... With your shotgun in hand kick around and try to flush a rabbit. once you do you gotta be quick..turn the saftey off, aim and fire. fire slightly ahead of it if its running. good luck

Work is for people who don't know how to hunt!
For strictley rabbits & squirrels I like my .410.
I recommend it for an all day/long walk hunting
asthey arelight weight and quick handling. Mine is
a bolt action (1st real gun from Santa many moons
ago) but anything from a single shot, double barrel,
pump or auto loader would work, shooters choice.
Winchester even makes a lever action that looks
alot like the model '94 rifle. I can't help but think
that would make a kid of any age a Merry Christmas.
Oh yeah, I agree with the 6 shot load. Go with the 3".
