Default Central Tennessee

I am in Central Tennessee every July, near Jackson. I want to teach my daughter about hunting. What is a good small game animal in that area that is a) legal to hung and b) something we are likely to get? I will be borrowing a relative's .22 rifle. Thanks for your help.

kleslie welcome to the forumsi have a friend that dosen't live to far from there, he is in waterloo, he said to go to any of the hardwood bottoms and they'll be plenty of squirrels, not sure on the season dates, thestate website list the open dates and requirements, she may also need a hunter safety course, thats about all i know, enjoy your time with your daughter, there are only a fewbetter feelings i know of than introducing a young person to the outdoors

Spring squirrel season in '06 is May 13 - June 11. Regular squirrel season should begin the fourth Saturday in August. A hunter education course is required for all hunters (resident/non-resident) born after 01/01/69. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency website is:

I don't know of any seasons open during that time of the year that a .22 rifle would be appropriate to use, but someone else here might have better information. Generally, Jackson, TN is considered to be in West Tennessee, in case you look for information based on geographic region.
