Default Pellets

I was wondering what kind of pellet works best on birds like pigions. I bought some pointed pellets but some people say hollow point works better.

I think any will work the same but the key is shot placement.

for small things like that they will all kill them dead with a good hit and a decintly high velocity.......i wouldnt worry much about pellet style for small game.......squirrel or something..id use a pointed pellet just for better penetration.......wadcutters or rounded ones will probably produce more shock...but penetrate less........not sure what a HP pellet would do.......i never shot those...my guess would be either fragment..or not do much.....depending on the speed and what it hit........but for pigeons....anything will work with a decint velocity and a good shot.......

It all depends on the power and caliber of your gun. If you have a high powered .177 gun, then pointers may not be the best choice for birds. Overpenetration can be just as bad as under penetration.I'd probably use some RWS Super "H" points, or some Crow Magnums to handle birds. Unless you are using a lower powered gun or a .22 cal, then I'd probably use either a Beeman kodiak, or a Copperhead Pointer. Both have excellent ballistic coeffecients and carry their energy well downrange. This is all for birds though. If you want to shoot squirrels or rabbits, I'd stick with a pointer or dome. And beyond all that, I would probably use the pellet that groups the best at range out of my barrel, despiteits design.
