I was just wondering if you guys use rifles to shoot squirrels out of trees or just shotguns? if you use rifles how do you know that your bullet won't fly off and hit something or someone?

i will use a 410 during the early season... during the later part of the year i will use my 10/22 when the tree rats are running around on the ground... i also look beyond my intended target

I use a 20 gauge and .22 for squirrels. When I use the .22, I make sure what is behind what I am shooting at, but most of the time they are on the ground so I don't have to worry as much as if I would be shooting up into a tree.

Your bullet has just as much chance of bouncing off a tree and hitting someone as a bb from a shotgun does. but to prevent that you see whats beyond your target. also, a typical .22 will usualy only travel about a mile so its not like its gunna keep going into some city and kill someone.
