Default Question for New England coyote hunters

I live and hunt in New England. I haven't coyote hunted yet, but I am planning to give it a try soon. My question is this; Have you ever had a bear respond to your calling? I am interested in bear hunting in the fall, and have read about using predator calls to atract bears. I figure if this type of calling works then some coyote hunters must have had experiences with bears responding.

Flair...It's possible, but don't count on it. Bears are pretty slick critters and will not come to the calls hard like a yote. If you need any tips on the yote hunting, let me know. I live in mass too and kill a pile of the things. Calling them is not that good of a way to kill them here. I will kill 20 dogs to your 1 that you call in. We are loaded with them, and if your gonna do it, do it right. Give me a shout, and I will give you a hand.

What do you do? Use dogs? Bait?

Bait is the way to go....and not just a little bait. I hear guys talking about putting a chicken or a deer carcass out.....not even close to enough. I'm talking about putting out a 1500 lb cow. With bait, you have to do it right. If you screw it up, you might get one here or there, but if you do it right, you can kill 3, 6, 10 a night.....no joke. I have had nights that I ran out of shells shooting at the friggers.

Bait might be good but thats the easy way to do it. Most people like the challenge of calling something in and then taking it instead of just baiting it and shooting it. Whats the challenge in that? I garuntee the satifaction in calling something in and taking it will be greater then just baiting it and shooting it. And if there that many coyotes as moosegal says, calling them in shouldnt be that hard, unless youre realy stupid.

Oh, and Ive heard of plenty of stories of bears being called in and mountian lions. Just be sure youre not in bear country or something, but you'll be just fine. Down here I dont take any chances and pack my 357.

coyotegod.....to each his own i guess....but don't put those of us down that take coyote population control seriously. If u want to grab your gun and call and go fool around for an hour or two....good for you, enjoy yourself. Just don't chastise a man for trying to put a serious hurt on a local yote population.
And F.Y.I. It takes alot more work and prep time to bait succesfuly than it does to call.

Are you serious? It takes more work to throw a carcass out and sit and wait than to call a coyote in. Man, then why would you even want to bait. If you just want to control the population and want an easy way to do it why dont you just trap them instead of going threw this huge time comsuming process of preping bait like you say?

Coyotegod....Two reasons:

1. First, because bait IS by far the best way to attract them. You go ahead and mimick food, and I will go ahead and give them food. Do a test and then tell me what works better.....

2. Trapping is illegal here

lastly, If you read my posts, I am offering up advice to another person that has asked for it. I am not seeking any advice. I have spent God only knows how many hours, perched 50+ feet up in trees, freezing my nads off in sub zero temps, observing and slaughtering these things. I have this type of hunting worked out to a T, and can and do wipe out entire populations in my target areas.
If you want to call, good for you. Have fun. In fact, I call too, and quite a bit for that matter.....OVER BAIT. Try howling over a 1500 lb cow that has been out for a week or two, and now weighs 500 pounds cuz the whole crew married it. Just a little advice....bring alot of bullets.
