Default Which bullet for elk

I will be going to Colorado for ELK with my Muzzleloader. This is not my first elk hunt with my muzzleloader and we have been successful almost every year we have hunted. One issue my hunting partners and I always have is what is a good muzzleloader bullet to use on elk.
So I thought I would ask my fellow hunters who hunt elk what bullets do you use. Please let me know. I would like to begin getting ready for my hunt by shoot several different bullets to see what works best in my encore.

the ultimate IMO would be the 250-300gr Thor conical.
My next favorite would be the 348gr powerbelt, 405gr powerbelt or even the big beast 444 FP powerbelt.

My elk load is the 250gr thor and right now, am working on both a blackhorn209 and american pioneer powder charge.

For elk I would have to say either a 285- 300 grain Barnes bullet or maybe a Nosler Partition. With elk being as big as they are, you want to maximize penetration. Both bullets I mentioned do this.

klundin, In colorado we are limited to conical bullets only. No sabots, unless you're hunting during rifle season.

One word: Bullshop

I've been shooting them for a couple years now. Very accurate, easy loading and tough. I shoot a couple other conicals for fun, but when it's time to get serious, I pull out the Bullshops.

I will be shooting the 250 gr.Thors for Elk and Mule Deer. That is if I draw my tags. If not I'll be launching 320 grain Gold Tips from my High Country Speed Force

The 300 gr Thor (which is a barnes bullet) or the 350 gr Hornady FPB. Either fired with around 100 gr of poweder will get the job done.

NO EXCUSES CONICALS,
Used the 50 cal. 460 grain last year with great results. This is the most accurate bullet I have ever shot out of my Knight Disk Extreme. Last year 1 shot with this bullet and 90 gr. 2-f Goex Black- DEAD 5X5 BULL. Big hole and lots of blood on Whitetails also. The phone number is 801-776-1418 and the price and waiting time is OK.

SC ELK

At this point were I to shoot a conical @ an Elk it would be the 460 Bull Shop or No Excuse... I prefer the Bull Shop as Dan will size it to fit your bore and then it becomes a 'slip fit' - load it just like a sabot - no short starter needed.

It is a very accurate bullet and even has a pretty decent BC for such a big slug.

I shoot it with 90 grains of T7 @ 1500+ fps.
