Whatever rifle fits her best, chambered in .243 Winchester. Look at the youth models if she's smaller in stature, as they'll probably fit her better and be lighter. Fit is important for perceived recoil, and while the .243 is quite light, it could still start to hurt after several shots if the rifle fits her poorly.

I'd take her to the store with you and guide her through holding several rifles in your price range and then let her choose.

Women love lever actions. Buy a Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum. The cartridge hits the deer hard, without alot of recoil in a rifle. 44 Magnum is cheap to shoot. No need for special expensive bullets in a diminutive sub 6.5 caliber. This is a rifle she will enjoy shooting. Tom.

I'll second the rifle fit suggestion, but I'd go with something in .260 or 7mm-08. Little difference in recoil to the .243, but bigger holes.

Either way would work for you.

Several good choices offered so far. I'd also suggest something with a wood or laminated stock so the LOP can be easily altered for a proper fit.

In my opinion it is very hard to beat a 260 Rem in a ruger or rem mod 7 for smaller shooters that want to deer hunt.

i bought my misses (5'6"135#) a rem model 7 in .260, great little gun, reasonably accurate and an easy shooter, heck i carry it a bunch, i was looking for one in the 7mm-08 variety cause i roll my own and most of it is in the 7mm cal. but we love the little .260... even when my granson was 10 he would/could shoot till we ran out of rounds

i was mostly looking for a caliber. i dont want to much kick because she is very small, but it also needs to be fairly light.
