Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Do Turkeys roost in the same spot?

Does a turkey usually roost in the same tree or in the general same spot? How close can you get to the roost without spooking them...that is if you know the tree that they are in?

They change it up, kind of like deer...But a good roosting area this year will generally be a good one next year...

I try not to get closer than 100 yards from a bird, 100-200, depending upon the terrain...

They will roost in the same general area most of the time.

I agree, they will roost in the same general area as long as they arent spooked there, they will change their area as season progresses, but from what Ive seen, they will be close by from day to day. As far as to how close, it depends on several things, terrain, weather conditions, amount of foliage on the trees. When the trees are leaved out and the leaves are wet, I like to lip in close to them, and sit quietly and wait for them to fly down, then call to them lightly, Im notorious for slipping to within 75 yards of them in late season, but usually try to get to about 100-150 yards.

I get as close as possible, if I stop at a hundred yds and think I can get closer I move up.

we have one field where the coyotes and bobcats can't effectively hunt the turkeys and the best trees are in one spot, they could go to other trees but the never have from year to year. i have other fields where the turkeys are constantly moving the roost from day to day, generaly these constant movers are ones that are always chased by coyotes and bobcats and all the woods around are perfect for roosting.

I've been blessed with hunting on some private property the last 4 years and the birds on this particular land of 120 acres prefer the same set of oaks in a few different locations. The feathers and droppings in these areas is insane.
