Default Shark Fishing

Hey All,

I'm going shark fishing for the first time on 06-25-04 off Montauk Point, NY. Any advice? What should I expect?

Here in Ga we catch a pretty good bit of them. I enjoy catching them and they taste pretty good too.

They will give you a pretty good fight. Make sure you have a good rod and reel, decent lb line, hook etc..

captain i've chartered with tells me he releases all blue shark, and that we are only able to keep one mako (according to regs)........i'm thinking of having the head mounted regardless of if it's actually a trophy size.......

OUTDOOR GUY,

I was at the STAR ISLAND shark tournament this weekend which is in Montauk (if your not from the area). You can expect to catch alot of blue sharks, there fun to catch but they are terrible to eat, if you get lucky you can catch a mako or thresher both are great fighters and excellent on the table. There were quite a few makos & threshers caught this weekend, you should have a great time---------which boat are you fishing on?

I'm going out of New Jersey on Saturday the 26th. We went last Saturday on my boat and caught some brown sharks between 4 and 6 feet. We also saw whales. One thing about fishing for blue and mako sharks in the NE during June - there will also be big bluefish around. Hopefully you can have some fun catching 10-15lb bluefish on light tackle while waiting for Mr. Mako. The capt. will probably want a few blues for bait, as well. Awesome mako bait.
