The first mate on the boat Trophy is the brother to a friend of ours. They hooked up the first day with a the first marlin and released him. $2000. Later that day they hook a big one, at the boat they gaffed him and got him on board but not before the prop apparently hit him. That's ok but as he cooled on the way in, the cut got bigger. When they got to the scales and went to weight him, it got even bigger and the tail fell off. Mutilated fish, no score. From what his brother told me, it weighs a lot more than first place does and is the biggest marlin with tail ever caught in the tournament. Apparently tipped the scales over 700#s. Well there goes your 100,000.00 tip.
