Default Kingfish from the pier!

Kingfish season at our pier just opened yesterday when a 70 year old man caught the first Kingfish this year off of our pier. It weighed 40 pounds! Now to be able to get a spot on the pier you will need to get in line at least a half hour before the gate opens.

I had bought all of the stuff for pier fishing here in NC but then never used it. I think what changed my mind was the amount of time vs. the amount of fish they actually hook up on. I prefer surf fishing. Is it better there in Jax?

I also din't know you lived in Jax Beach. My old boss lives there and my sister lives just on the other side of the ditch. I love Ragtime and was there just over a month ago. All I can say, GOOD BEER!

Yep, lived here for 25 years and love it. Like I tell everyone...It's the worlds largest playground.

I average two kings, alot of spanish mackeral, several sharks, several oversize red drum, each year. Some days I'm catchin', some days in sitting in my chair under the umbrella socialing with friends. A bad day fishing at the pier is better than pretty much anything else!

Ragtime is about two miles from my house. Believe it or not I've only been there a few times.

They have been in on the beach here for bout three weeks, any idea why you guys are behind us? The cobia are down your way for the most part, but a few are starting to show around here. Where were you going to be peir fishing in NC fieldmouse? I know the hatteras peirs up north dont really get that much action, but the Jolly Roger and Oceancrest seem to get non stop action. Heck, there are people on oceancrest that will catch 3-4 kings a day when they bite good, and they arent small when they come that close to the beach. Good luck with your fishin thunder, hope you catch a big one.

They just got here because the gulf stream is about 100 miles out, and it takes our water a little longer to warm up because of the south current.
We will be catching up until the middle of November.

I never thought the gulf stream was that far out from Florida, only about 65 miles here to the stream and 72 to the canyon. I guess I can see where it makes that bend around Florida and goes out farther though. I love the November fishing around here for kings at Hatteras, that is when the big boys are running, is it the smae down there? Bigger in the fall?

Yeah, Cape Canaveral gives it a mighty shove way out into the Atlantic. What gave the Cape its shape is the north current, and the south current. It bends them both out to sea.
