Default Wire Hum??

Does anybody have a good answer for knocking down the hum of their down-rigger wire? I can put up with the shallow dragging, but when you stretch out a lot of wire (100 to 150 feet times 2 downriggers)), it can make the whole boat vibrate!<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> Someone wrote in a mag I was reading in the local Airport awhile back that they had a round cork ball they slid on their wire before they attached the terminal end swivel, and I was wondering if anyone had tried this method, and how it worked?

phish-on, I've been fishing L.Ontario for probably 25 yrs or so, and I've found that when I hear my riggers humm I know I'm trolling the right speed. Seems when there humming I get the most action, wether its the vibration that attracts the salmon, or if its the speed I'm not sure but I do pick up the speed till I hear 'em humm. But then this is just my opinion.

Yes, rich e - I've noticed that same situation - the noise doesn't seem to bother the salmon, just the salmon fisherman I guess! Still, my boat really amplifies the sound (for some reason) and I'd like to change that if I can. I am going to try placing a relatively thin layer of neoprene gasket material beneath the mounting block and the fiberglass and see if that knocks some of it down. Thanks for the reply and good fishing.
