Default Sierra 90 Grain Game King.

Have any of you used the 90 grain Sierra Game kink HP in the 25 caliber rifles. Sierra calls it a Varmit bullet with medium game applications in the smaller 25 caliber such as the 250 Savage. I would guess one might have to throttle it down a little for deer or antelope in the 25-06. Just wondered if anyone has tried it. I generally use the 100 grain bullets in the 25-06 but may try the 117 Hornady sst this years as well. Last year the 100 and 115 grain Nosler Ballistic tips worked preyy well. Out of four mule deer taken, three were pass throughs and one was under the skin on the opposite shoulder. I am sure the 100 grain Partition would work great as well. I loved the Ruger 25-06 last year and I have since had the trigger worked over. Its really sweet now. I load so many rifles for deer seasons when that 25-06 is all I would ever need.

I have a buddy that uses the the 90gr in his .25/06 Mt Rifle exclusivly. He has had really good results. The Sierra book shows a published volocity of 3400fps for that bullet, however, his rifle was clocked somewhere around 3180. He has killed somewhere around 20 deer with the 90 & most have dropped or fell within 10 yards. The largest deer he has shot was a 200lb deer he shot at a "less than idea" angle. It made it mabey 80-90yrds from the shot, but NO bloodtrail. The others have speew'd blood but when you hit 'em in the guts.....

I loaded some of the 90's this past year to shoot out of my latest purchase. A Rem Classic in 25/06. (I have been really impressed) They shot very well but I also had loaded some 117 gr game kings and started with those first. They worked so well (droped 6/6 deer shot with them) I never even tried the 90's.

If you TAKE & MAKE good shots I'm sure you will be pleased with the 90's. I plan to do some testing this year with 'em on deer. I know they will knock the heck out of a crow!!!

Thanks guys. I am going to get a box to try. I think they would be a good combo bullet for Varmits and deer. I usually see several coyotes during deer season.

Yes...I've tried them and they work very well. It's a good deer and a better pronghorn bullet from the .257 cal

Thats good to hear. Most of my deer hunting is on the prarie where shots are not in heavy cover and not to long. Most of my shota are about 200 yards or a bit less. It should be a good bullet for the 250 Savage and I could load it in the 25-06 but may load it down to about 3200 fps. The wifes 250 Savage is a 700 classic Rem with a 24 inch barrel. I should be able to get about 3100 fps from that one.

I have two of the 700 classics. Both are real shooters. A '90 edition 25/06 Rem and '00 edition .223Rem. I really like those guns. I wish that style was availiable in more calibers.

JamesB,
I have used the 90 HPBT Gameking exclusively in my 25-06. The rifle is a Browning Composite Stlaker. IT loves the Gameking. With regards to deer, it has taken at least three a year for the last 5 years and none have gone more than 15-20yds, most fell where they stood. I wouldn't change at this point if I were given free cartridges.
