Default RE: Anyone use a ruger compact?

I don't own one personally. A co-worker purchased one about a month ago. We went to a local place to shoot and setup my bench and rest. He had bought 2 boxes of Remington 150 gr. Core-Lokt's and I had an old box of Federal Classic's with 150 gr. soft points. I also have a chronograph that we used to see what effect having a 16" barrel would have on velocity. The velocity was about what I expected. The Remington load averaged 2494 fps for 5 shots. The Federal load was a little better at 2531 fps for a 5 shot average. The great thing was at 100 yards both loads grouped under 1.25". The rifle is light and fast handling. The recoil wasn't bad in the short light rifle and the report wasn't nearly as loud as I expected. Overall I think this is a fine rifle for deer & feral hogs out to 200 yards with 150 gr. loads. If you go heavier than 150's your velocity will get pretty low. I don't think I would go heavier unless you want to use it as a short range weapon. The only kick I have is that at least my coworkers rifle needs and is in the process of having a trigger job. Fit and finish was good and with the scale of the rifle a compact scope with a 32MM objective looks great. The scope he used was a Burris compact 3-9X32.

My guess with the velocities and bullets mentioned it is a 308.
