Default .308 Win Loads

I just bought a DPMS Long Range Panther .308 w/ 24" bbl. Any ideas on a load to start with? Maybe w/ a Hodgdon powder as I have a lot of types on hand?

Yeah, I forgot that. This will primarily be a long range toy for metallic sil. and paper. Too *@#% heavy to take hunting!

I think your best bet for that kind of shooting would be either the 168 or 190 grain Sierra Matchking, or the Nosler J4's in 168 grain. They should give you plenty of power at that range to notice definate hits. I have never worked with Hodgdon powders or the .308, but do know that those bullets are renowned for there accuracy. Hope this helps.

Standard match loads are like 44gr Varget and 210M primer and 168gr matchking. I shoot however 45gr of Varget and 165gr gameking with great success. Only problem you will have is not only accuracy but cycling. I can't imagine the 44gr or even 43gr would be an issue.
