I picked up a little NEF youth Model in 7mm-08. I was suprised at how much easier it was to shoulder the little youth model stock with my bad shoulder. It allows me to keep the shoulder a little lower and a little closer to my body. I have yet to try a scope to see if its going to be to close to my eye. I could cut a spacer and then put the pad back on if it turns out to be to short or maybe put a slip on pad over the existing pad. Anyway its a short handi little rifle. I was looking over some choices in bullets and am curious about the performance of the 130 grain Speer. I like the sectional density numbers. Has anyone used this one much? For deer I have been using the 120 grain Sierra pro-hunter in the 280 and I quess is should work in the 08 as well. The 120 is a bit fragil if you hit the shoulder though. I keep it down to 2800 fps in the 280. The 7mm08 is quite a bit lighter and easier to handle than the 26 in NEF 280.
I love the caliber...for deer, I like the 139/140 gr bullets especially for longer ranges. In order...140 gr Nosler accubond, 139 gr Hornady SST, 140 gr Sierra SBT Gameking. My 2 cents. By the way...if you have a bad shoulder, the old 7x57 Mauser is a rifle that shoots darn near 7-08 speeds with the mildest kick you can imagine. I'm 59 and my old Steyr 7x57 is all I shoot anymore in the big calibers. Good luck, regards Rick.
